Community Initiatives Fund grants over $4.5 million to 143 communites

The Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) has given out 354 grants totalling $4,503,747, to help local communities.

CIF, which is a special proposed fund created through the Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan Corporation Act, helped out 143 communities while helping serve an estimated 104,338 individuals across the province.

Parks, Culture and Sports Minister Laura Ross said the CIF enhances the quality of life for Saskatchewan people.

“Our government works closely with the Community Initiatives Fund to ensure that Saskatchewan residents and communities are benefitting from investments in community-based programs and projects throughout our province – and we look forward to continuing this important working relationship.”

Through its Community Grant Program’s April 1st deadline, CIF approved $3,561,484 to support 142 projects that contribute to the well-being of children and youth, families, and communities.

The projects provide opportunities for children and youth to gain “the knowledge, skills, and support to develop positive mental health, self-esteem, and healthy lifestyle behaviours and ensure families have access to support and resources to create healthy and caring environments.”

The projects also provide nonprofit staff, Board members, and volunteers training and resources.

“The range of programs, organizations, and communities supported by the CIF is truly inspiring,” shared Tracey Mann, Executive Director of the Community Initiatives Fund. “The projects supported reflect the contribution of community-based organizations across Saskatchewan who ensure that individuals have access to services, supports and programming designed to improve their well-being.”

Additionally, 212 summer grant programs were approved, totalling $942,263, to support camps and day programs offering recreation, arts, culture, and learning opportunities for children and youth during the summer months.
