Warrant issued for man involved in hit and run causing death

A hit and run has claimed the life of a toddler on the George Gordon First Nation.

Information from the RCMP indicates a pick up truck hit a small child at about 5:50 p.m. Thursday and then fled. The child was declared deceased by EMS at the scene.

Punnichy RCMP have charged 33-year-old Mervin Poorman from Kawacatoose First Nation with one count of failing to stop after an accident resulting in death and one count of operating a vehicle while prohibited.

A warrant has been issued for Poorman’s arrest.

He is 6-foot-3, 300 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, and the tattoos Poorman on his left forearm and a Browning logo on his right hand.

The pick-up truck, a black 2008 Dodge Ram with Saskatchewan license plate 274 MNW, has not been located and police continue to search for it.
