The Regina Police Service is reminding residents to lock their doors and secure their valuables as break and enters, as well as thefts, are on the rise throughout the city.
Over the past two months, the RPS has seen 80 breaks and enters into residences, garages, and sheds and 117 thefts from auto.
Fifty-five per cent of residences, garages, and sheds that were broken into were unlocked, with the other 45 per cent needing to be properly secured.
Common items that were taken included sports equipment, high-end tools and technology like laptops.
Ninety-seven per cent of vehicles that saw items stolen were left uncooked, with the rest not secured or had their windows rolled down.
Common items taken are wallets and garage door openers, which lead to garage and home break-ins.
“In addition to stolen property, there is the very real threat to personal safety,” the RPS said. “A recent case reported to police involved a suspect gaining entry to a home through an unlocked door and assaulting the homeowners in the middle of the night. The suspect was arrested and charged with break & enter & commit assault.”
