Regina and Saskatoon top report of most affordable places for rent

Saskatchewan’s two largest cities remain two of Canada’s most affordable places to rent.

According to a report from Rentals.ca which looked at 38 communities across the country, when combining the average rent of a suite, one, two, and three-bedroom rentals, Regina had the lowest average rent at $1,140.

Saskatoon was right behind the Queen City in second with an average rental price of $1,175.

The report from Rentals.ca comes as asking rent in Canada hit a record high last month of $2,042, surpassing the previous record set in November 2022 ($2,024.)

The record rent is part of a trend that has seen the average asking rent in Canada increase by 20 per cent over the last two years.

Regina has seen its average rent increase by 6.8 per cent compared to last year, which marks the fourth-lowest increase.

Saskatoon has seen its rent increase by 9.5 per cent.

Provincially, of the seven provinces listed in the report, Saskatchewan had the lowest average rent at $1,096, which marks a seven per cent increase from last year.
