New report shows Saskatchewan’s per student funding declining

Saskatchewan is one of only two provinces in the country that is seeing a decrease in per student funding for education.

According to a study from the Fraser Institute, when you factor in inflation, per student funding in Saskatchewan has dropped 11.6 percent between 2012 and 2021.

Saskatchewan used to lead the country in this category in 2012, and has now dropped to 6th out of 10 provinces.

Quebec has seen the largest increase in funding during that time period, being up almost 33 percent.

The only other province to see a decline is Alberta. The province to the west has dropped 10 percent between 2012 and 2021.  Manitoba was up 7 percent in that same time frame.

Nova Scotia was up 26.9 per cent and Prince Edward Island up 19 per cent. British Columbia up 12.8 per cent.
