City of Regina looking to public help select official bird

The City of Regina is inviting residents to help select the city’s official bird.

Until October 22, residents are encouraged to nominate their choice for Regina’s official bird at Regina.ca/bird.

Residents can participate in two ways during the selection process. The initial nomination process will gather bird suggestions.

The Bird Friendly City Committee will then review the nominations and present the top five for a final vote by residents in December.

“We are excited for this unique opportunity to select our city’s official bird,” says Shannon Chernick, Manager of Conservation and Education, Nature Saskatchewan. “This is another step in our journey of advancing Regina as a Bird Friendly City, and we are thrilled to include our fellow Reginians in the journey.”

In March 2022, through the work of Regina’s Bird Friendly City Committee, Regina was officially declared a Bird City through Nature Canada’s Bird Friendly City Program.

Bird Friendly City Regina is a volunteer committee with 14 members from the community and local environmental non-profits such as Nature Saskatchewan, Nature Regina and Salthaven West.
