Fire after “two loud bangs” on Halifax Street in Regina

In the bright blue fall sky over Regina, a black cloud rose from the scene of an apparent fire on Halifax Street near 12th avenue.

The fire was in a vacant lot between two homes, and appears to be a makeshift encampment of at least a couple of tents.

Witnesses tell 620CKRM, there were two loud bangs and then smoke and fire.

One person was being treated by paramedics at the scene, but there is no update on how serious the injuries are.

Numerous fire fighters descended on the fire, which was burning in debris in the lot, as well as a wooden fence.

The fire was quickly put out, but firefighters continued to pour water onto the debris pile, to make sure the fire stayed out.

No word on the cause, but several witnesses reported a man running from the tent on the vacant lot just before the two loud bangs.

Regina Police and Regina Fire and Protective Services are investigating.
