Rams head west to meet UBC

The University of Regina Rams (1-5) football team will hit play their final road game of 2023 on Saturday against the UBC Thunderbirds.

Last week, the Rams were officially eliminated from playoff contention following their 41-34 loss to the University of Manitoba Bisons(3-4).

One positive from last week was rookie returner Kenton Appel making history. Appel became the first Rams player to ever return a missed field goal for a touchdown against the Bisons with a 115 yard touchdown.

UBC(4-2) is coming off a stunning road loss to the Calgary Dinos(1-5). The Thunderbirds are tied with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies(4-2) for second spot in the Canada West Football standings with the University of Alberta Golden Bears(6-1) leading the way.

Today’s game will be a homecoming of sorts for Rams rookie QB Owen Sieben. The freshman is ranked 10th across the country in both passing yards per game (246.5) and completion percentage (64.8%). Sieben will play his first Canada West game in his home province.
