Pats come up short in Swift Current

The Regina Pats dropped their second straight game on the road with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday.

Swift Current jumped out to a late first period lead with a goal from Tyson Laventure.

The score remained that way until the third period when the Broncos extended their lead when Clarke Caswell scored.

Zackary Shantz cut the Pats deficit to one a minute later, but Regina couldn’t find the equalizer.

Regina had two goals waved off on Sunday, in the third period the Pats thought they had tied the game, but it was ruled the puck went off a high stick from Tye Spencer. Late in the second, Borya Valis appeared to score but it was waved off due to goaltender interference.

Ewan Huet made 18 saves in the loss.

Regina was 0/3 on the power play while Swift Current was 0/6.

Pats Assistant Coach Ken Schneider felt the team played a strong defensive game.

“Our penalty kill was excellent, it kept us in the game.”

He added Regina was desperate in the final 6-7 minutes of the game.

“We played in their end of the rink, a bounce here or a little bit of lady luck, I think it would’ve been a tied game.”

After playing their last three away from the Brandt Centre, the Pats will return to home ice on Friday when they host the Saskatoon Blades.
