Young farmers across Canada looking to sharpen their skills while making connections have an opportunity to attend a series of events hosted by Farm Credit Canada.
The FCC Young Farmers Summit, which is free to attend, has a total of 7 events scheduled — 6 in-person and 1 virtual — for late November into mid-February.
Jason Fiske, Manager of Content Marketing and Social Media with FCC, says its geared toward farmers under 40.
“It’s an opportunity for young farmers to shift the work they’ve been doing outside and focus more on the work they typically do inside, so that would be focussed on the business side of their operation, focussed on a number of different topics around family dynamics and even mental health. It’s also an opportunity to hear speakers talk about financial management and risk management and all of the components that go into a successful farm outside of the production side of the operation.” Fiske said.
A virtual event will be held November 28th, as well as the first in-person summit in Ariss, Ontario the same day, followed by another in Trenton, Ontario December 6th. One will be in Saskatoon on February 7th, another is in Winnipeg on January 24th. FCC will also be in Lethbridge January 31st, and in Camrose on February 13th.
He says feedback has been strong over the years.
“A lot of the attendees really appreciate the networking and connecting with others within the industry,” Fiske said. “Our summits have the opportunity to bring people together where people can share ideas, experiences, thoughts, and connect with those experiencing the same opportunities that agriculture can provide.”
