Special Council Meeting Set for discussion about REAL

Regina City Council is holding a special meeting today at 3:00pm.

The topic: the smoldering wreckage that is the Regina Exhibition Association Limited.

This week, council narrowly voted to remove the board of directors of REAL. Minutes after that vote was confirmed, the entire board of directors voted unanimously to resign.

REAL was hit hard during the pandemic and has been bleeding red ink ever since. A recent report from MNP stated the association in its current form was not sustainable and things needed to change. This follows on the heels of a request from REAL for massive budget increase, the disastrous re-brand of Tourism Regina, and the city taking back Tourism Regina from the association.

The REAL Board was under scrutiny after concerns CEO Tim Reid is in a conflict of interest, running his own consulting business on the side. Reid remains as CEO and will report to a new board council plans to nominate today.

The temporary board being named today includes City Manager Niki Anderson and other high level staffers at City Hall.

The city is allowing speakers to address council on all of this at its special meeting. People who want to take part have to register with the City Clerk’s office by noon today by calling 306-777-7262 or emailing [email protected] and provide your full name and contact information.
