Corey Mace to Make SportsCage Debut

You can’t imagine the whirlwind of activity that surrounds a new head coach for the flagship franchise of the CFL.

With the ink still drying on the contract, new Head Coach Corey Mace took a stroll out into a darkened Mosaic Stadium last night, a moment captured on video by the club.

Mace was introduced at a news conference this morning, and will be making the rounds meeting stakeholders and others as he gets set to step into his new role.

His first one on one interview will be on 620CKRM’s SportsCage. Mace will join Michael Ball for the first segment of the show at 3 o’clock.

Mace was hired by the Saskatchewan Roughriders to take over a team that has struggled the last two seasons.

Mace has won three Grey Cups, one as a player and two as a coach, so the Riders have someone who knows the way to playoff promised land.

Mace had a long career as a player before becoming a coach. Mace, from Port Moody B.C., was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2007 CFL Draft. Mace played three seasons with the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League, before spending several years in Calgary as a player, and then a coach.

Mace was well liked and respected in Calgary, before moving on to the Toronto Argonauts where he has been the defensive coordinator of the last two seasons. In 2023, the Argos finished with a 16 and 2 record, and a birth in the CFL’s Eastern Final.
