Fire destroys historic bar in Town of Kamsack

A serious fire has destroyed the Woodlander Hotel & Liquor Store in the community of Kamsack.

Fire crews in Kamsack with help from the Rhein Fire department, were called to the blaze around 10:00PM last night (Fri), and Kamsack Fire chief Ken Thompson says when they arrived they began work on the back of the building then short time later a wall blew out & the entire building was then fully engulfed in flames.

Everyone inside was able to escape the building and no one was reported injured in the fire

One adjacent business across the street was impacted having a window blown out because of smoke damage.

Thompson adds the investigation into a cause will begin today with the Saskatchewan Fire Marshalls service.

The building was built in 1912 and was originally known as the King George Hotel before a name change to the Woodlander in the 1980s , and survived the Kamsack Cyclone from 1944.
