Roster announced for Team Canada at World Juniors

Hockey Canada announced the roster for Team Canada at the upcoming U20 World Junior Hockey Championships.

Among the notable names selected to the squad include former Regina Pats Draft Pick Matthew Wood (2020 2nd round). The Lethbridge, Alta. product is currently playing with the University of Connecticut and was selected by the Nashville Predators in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft (15th overall).

Other players from the Western Hockey League include Brayden Yager and Denton Mateychuk from the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Saskatoon Blades Fraser Minten and Tanner Molendyk were also named to the team.

One of the players who was released by Team Canada earlier today was Warriors forward Jagger Firkus.

Team Canada has left a spot open in hopes they will receive either Zach Benson (Buffalo) or Matthew Poitras (Boston) from the NHL to fill their final vacant. Canada can also fill the void with one of the players that was released today.

The 2024 World Juniors begin on Boxing Day in Sweden with Canada opening up their schedule against Finland.
