SIRT Clears Officers in Regina Child Pornography Investigation

Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has concluded its investigation into an incident involving Regina Police Service and RCMP officers.

The probe, led by SIRT executive director Greg Gudelot, marks the team’s inaugural report since its establishment.

The inquiry stemmed from a June 27, 2023, search warrant execution at a Regina residence by the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit. The operation revealed USB drives with child sexual abuse material. Subsequently, a 42-year-old suspect resisted arrest, brandishing a kitchen knife. Despite officers’ attempts to dissuade him, the individual stabbed himself.

SIRT found the officers’ actions justified in response to the escalating threat.
