Two people have been charged with first degree murder in a case dating back over a year and a half.

On July 1, 2022, Onion Lake RCMP responded to a report of an injured adult male in a camper on Onion Lake Cree Nation.

The victim, a 46-year-old man, was found seriously injured and later died in the hospital. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit, along with local detachments and forensic services, investigated the circumstances surrounding his death.

On November 29, 2023, 21-year-old Dennis Cardinal from Onion Lake was arrested, and on December 11, 2023, 30-year-old Kimberly Thunderchild from Lloydminster was arrested in Edmonton.

Both face first-degree murder charges and are scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court today.
