Teachers Stage Second Day Long Strike to Back Contract Demands

Parents were again making alternate arrangements for child care, as teachers in Saskatchewan are staging a province wide strike for one day only.

Teachers held a one day strike last week.

The biggest issue at the table is “class size and complexity”, an issue which the provincial government has absolutely refused to discuss in these talks. The government feels that issue should be handled at the School Division Level, not the provincial bargaining table. Its the government’s unwillingness to even talk about it that has teachers trying to put pressure on the government.

Teachers announced today’s walkout on Friday to give parents and others as much time as possible to make alternate plans.

As for the future, the government isn’t budging from its position, and the teachers plan to keep applying pressure.

The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation has not announced what the next step will be.
