Moose Jaw police have released some details about a criminal charge, one day after Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Greg Lawrence was booted from Saskatchewan Party caucus.

Moose Jaw Police had a release late this morning that they have charged Lawrence, 58, with assault and assault by choking.

Police said they began an investigation into Lawrence on June 27, 2023, as a result of complaints about an interaction between two people.

Lawrence will make his first appearance on the charges March 18.

Police said there will be no further information released as the matters before the courts.

Premier Scott Moe provided a statement about the charges.

“Yesterday, I learned that it was confirmed the MLA for Moose Jaw Wakamow was under active police investigation and resigned,” the statement read.

“Today, I learned through media the nature of the charge.

“I am deeply concerned by this news. Our government has enacted some of the strictest measures and implemented some of the strongest programs for violence prevention.

“Our work will not be deterred and we will continue to focus on violence prevention initiatives to protect our families, our communities and our province.”
