Pats begin weekend set at home against the Broncos

After a two-month break, the Regina Pats and the Swift Current Broncos will become over the next two weeks.

Tonight, the Pats will host the Broncos, followed up by weekend home-and-home series on February 16 & 17.

Regina is coming off a three game stretch away from the Brandt Centre, going 1-2 during that span, including a 9-1 loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday.

Heading into tonight’s action, the Pats are six points back of Prince Albert for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Swift Current snapped a four-game losing skid in their last game on Wednesday, a 6-0 home victory against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Broncos are in the 5th position in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Moose Jaw Warriors by seven points for the fourth spot.

Tonight will mark the first time the Pats will see Connor Geekie in a Broncos uniform. The Arizona Coyotes first round pick in 2022 (11th overall) has picked up 10 points for Swift Current, following his trade from Wenatchee last month. On the season, Geekie has 59 points (26G-33A) in 33 games of action between the Wild and Broncos.

Swift Current holds an early advantage in the head-to-head matchup with the Pats in the 2023-24 season. The Broncos won the first two contests on home-ice, with Regina picking up a shootout win back on December 2.

Regina will try and maximize their advantage on special teams over Swift Current this season. Entering tonight’s game, the Pats (20.5%) hold a slim advantage over the Broncos (20.2%), while on the penalty skill, Regina (77.4%) has a slight edge (71.4%).

Following tonight’s game, the Pats are back at the Brandt Centre on Sunday, when they welcome in the Red Deer Rebels.
