Creative Saskatchewan loses more than $330,000 after fraudulent charge

Creative Saskatchewan lost $331,568.80 last year.

That is according to the most recent quarterly reports on losses of public money within government ministries and Crown corporations for the period from October 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023.

In August of 2023, Creative Saskatchewan’s banking information was fraudulently changed by someone impersonating a client. As a result, payment was redirected to an inappropriate bank account.

The matter has since been reported to police and is under investigation.

To date, Creative Saskatchewan has recovered $118,336.10.

The Saskatchewan Housing Corporation also lost money due to suspected misappropriation of funds for payments made to a fake vendor for incomplete work orders.

The misappropriation of funds was suspected to happen between 2019 and June 2023 and is estimated to be more than $5,000.

As a result, a Cumberland House Housing Authority manager was terminated. The matter was reported to the police and is under investigation.
