Riders re-sign Micah Johnson, and add US defensive linemen Elijah Ponder

Micah Johnson will be in Green and White for a fourth season. The Riders made it official today, saying the American defensive lineman has been signed to a one year extention.

Johnson made 27 defensive tackles, five sacks (tied for second on the team), one fumble recovery and one tackle for loss. Johnson is a three time all star, and has won the Grey Cup twice, both times when he was member of the Calgary Stampeders.

The Riders have also announced the signing of American defensive lineman Elijah Ponder.

Ponder was signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent following the 2021 NFL Draft and spent the season on the practice roster.

Prior to turning pro, Ponder spent five seasons at the University of Cincinnati, suiting up for 32 games as a Bearcat. He tallied 64 career tackles, including 13 tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hurries, five sacks, one pass deflection, and two forced fumbles. He was a two-time All-American Athletic Conference honouree (2019-20) and was invited to participate in the 2021 All-Star Hula Bowl.
