Historic Regina Ice Cream Shop – Milky Way Celebrates Opening

Today is the day. The sun is shining – it’s the first day of spring.

Which can only mean one thing, the opening of Regina icon Milky Way.

The red and white striped treat shack rolled up the windows for the first time today in one hundred and sixty two days.

Owner Anne Boldt could not be happier for another season serving up ice cream to eager customers.

“It’s wonderful and exciting – just waiting now for some nice warm weather.”

Established in 1956, Milky Way has captivated hearts for 68 years. Anne said one of the draws for people is standing outside in the warm sunshine visiting with fellow ice cream enthusiasts.

“It’s our tradition to open for the first sign of spring – we love to be one of the first signs.” – added Boldt.

With its storied history, this beloved establishment typically opens its doors in March and bids farewell in October.

Notably today’s flavor of the day is grape.
