A Sound You Don’t Want to Hear

Saskatchewan Critical Care on the Air Radio-Thon for STARS is a two day event being broadcast throughout the province.

Just how important is STARS to Saskatchewan? With 1,018 missions flown in the last fiscal year across Saskatchewan ask anyone, in any community in the province what they think of STARS. STARS is more than just a friend in the sky to farmers, ranchers, travelers and community members in Saskatchewan, STARS has been a life saver, a life giver.

For 2 days every dollar raised will assist in keeping STARS in flight. Items that make a difference include the Night Vision Goggle Flight Helmet, Medical Flight Helmet, the fuel to propel the big red helicopters, new equipment that is required to move babies, children and adults that are in potential life threatening situations to hospitals so they can receive additional care.

STARS is that link that can be present on your worst day. V.I.P (Very Important Patient) stories tell of the trauma, the urgency and the impact that STARS in Saskatchewan. There is no way you can foresee what is just around the corner, whether you are fencing or herding cattle in the pasture, travelling from your campsite to a main highway, working in the garden, riding a bus, fixing a flat time there could be a time and a place where you are in need of a lift. Weekly, I see the helicopters flying onto the flight pad atop of the General Hospital. Some days and nights these landings are numerous. Each time I wonder how serious the incident is. And as we have passed the anniversary of the Humboldt bus crash, remember how important STARS service was on that horrific April day.

The sponsors that support STARS on an annual basis know how important the fundraising is. And they ask you to go shoulder to shoulder with them. Donations have ranged from mere change to tens of thousands of dollars during fundraising events. The basic thought here is; Any amount is helping STARS during this Radio-Thon, it is keeping fuel in the tank for missions that could be saving your life.
