Regina police deploy CEW in arrest of Manitoba man

Regina police have charged a Manitoba man with firearms offences after a chase that began when they saw him jumping out a window.

At approximately 5:05 p.m. on April 13, members of the Regina Police Service were in the area of Victoria Avenue and Montreal Street when police observed a male jump out of a third-storey apartment window. Police saw the male take off running and observed him to be carrying a handgun.

With the assistance of the Air Support Unit, police were able to see him enter a yard on Victoria Avenue. The male came out to an alley where police deployed a conducted energy weapon, which was ineffective. After a short foot pursuit, the male was taken into custody without incident. A police canine unit searched the yard the male had entered on Victoria Avenue and located a loaded handgun and a quantity of illicit drugs.

A 25-year-old man from Winnipeg, Man., is charged with:

  • possession of a weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized;
  • possession of a loaded restricted firearm;
  • possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace;
  • obstruct peace officer;
  • three counts of possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
