RPS officer injured by fellow officer’s accidentally discharged firearm

During the execution of a search warrant at about 12:15 this morning, in the 1000 block of Retallack St., a Regina Police Service officer accidentally discharged their firearm, injuring another officer.

The injured officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no members of the public were harmed during the incident.

The Regina Police Service Major Crimes Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge. The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT), an independent civilian-led unit responsible for investigating serious incidents involving police officers, is monitoring the investigation.

At present, the RPS said are no further details available regarding the incident.
