An officer-involved shooting on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation has left a man dead and an RCMP officer injured. The Saskatchewan RCMP responded to an assault report around 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. When officers arrived, a confrontation ensued, forcing them to seek cover as the man fled inside a residence with two adults and two children.
The RCMP reported that during the police response, a firearm was discharged, fatally injuring the man. Despite life-saving measures by officers, he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
