Scientists are playing around the genetics of certain animals to bring back animals similar to those that went extinct years ago. Colossal Biosciences of Texas are identifying traits of deceased creatures and “editing” the genes of current animals to reflect those of past animals.

For example, scientists were successful in modifying the genes of mice to create a wooly mouse, a rodent with thick long hair like the ancient wooly mammoth. Scientists at the company are also hoping to genetically modify some Asian elephants to give them wooly mammoth traits.
