Forbes Magazine has released their annual list of the richest people on Earth and, once again, as the old idiom says “money sticks to money.” The net wealth of billionaires have increased significantly over the past year, especially those in the top 10 of the list. There are more billionaires now than ever before, totaling 3,028, up 247 from 2024. In fact, the top 15 wealthiest people have a combined wealth of $2.4 trillion, however that number swells to $16.1 trillion when the entire wealth of billionaires is added together.
It probably doesn’t surprise many that Elon Musk is listed as the wealthiest person with a net worth of $342 billion, up $195 billion from last year. In second was Mark Zuckerberg of Meta with a net worth of approximately $216 billion followed by Jeff Bezos of Amazon with an approximate net worth of $215 billion.
77 Canadians made the billionaires list this year, including former Saskatchewanian Jim Pattison who’s listed as having a net worth of $11.4 billion according to Forbes, good for 213th spot on the list. The wealthiest Canadian is cryptocurrency magnate Changpeng Zhao worth an estimated $62.9 billion.
Out of the 3,028 billionaires around the world, 406 are women with Wal-Mart heiress Alice Walton the wealthiest, placing 15th on the list with an estimated net worth of $101 billion. The next wealthiest woman is L’Oreal Francoise Bettencourt Meyers worth approximately $81.6 million and placing 20th on the Forbes list.
A number of celebrities made the billionaire list in 2025 including Jerry Seinfeld, Bruce Springsteen, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The first billionaire list from Forbes Magazine was released in 1987, which at the time, had a mere 14o billionaires.
