The Cooperators Centre at Regina Exhibition Association Ltd. (REAL) District, in partnership with Ochapowace First Nation, will play host to the 2026 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships, showcasing the best young male and female Indigenous talent from across the country.
“Sports and recreation are vital tools for building confidence, leadership, and resilience in our young people. When we provide these opportunities, we’re not just developing better athletes – we’re developing stronger communities and future leaders who carry their cultural pride with them in everything they do,” explained Chief Shelley Bear in a REAL District news release to 620 CKRM.
It’s a week long hockey tournament featuring eight male teams and eight female teams of bantam and midget aged athletes and is sanctioned by Hockey Canada.
“Hosting the 2026 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships is a tremendous honour for Regina,” stated Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski in a news release from REAL. “This tournament not only showcases the incredible talent of young Indigenous athletes from across Canada but also strengthens the bonds between communities through the spirit of sport. We proudly welcome all participants, families and fans to our city and look forward to an unforgettable championship.”
The event will bring in families, fans, athletes, and staff from across Canada and is expected to leave an estimated economic impact of over $1 million per category in Regina.

They provide a platform to celebrate the incredible talent of Indigenous athletes. The event will run May 2nd to 9th, 2026. Scheduling and ticket information will be released at a later date.
