Another memorable day on the road anticicpated our 620 CKRM Country Cookout with the Rowans outside of Young, last night. Prior to the gathering I am very fortunate to explore my surrounding environment. So much to see if given the chance and you take the time to look around. Shout out to our sponsors for making this all possible.

Young came into being with the coming of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. Young incorporated as a village on June 7, 1910.[5] It was named for F.G. Young, a land agent. A limestone kiln producing 1000 bushels of lime a day was established in the town at the northwest end of 2 Avenue. There was also an old power plant set up in town that fed energy into the community.
Here’s just a taste of what I saw.

You have to talk to the locals to get the scoop. Thanks Cindy from the grocery store for the visit.

I had to go check out the golf course in town and that is where I ran into Calvin , who works at the nearby mind and is also the local historian of Young. When he’s not working he’s volunteering and cutting grass at the course. Just so you know the club house is the train station. When the rail line was no longer being used they moved the station to the course. Lots of history here.

Calvin was a fountain of information for my visit. Thanks bud.

Time to visit the area outside of young

this was the old airport building and hanger.

This building is unique as it was the old power station in town.

took a little trip to Zelma to check out the restored church and them off to the Zelma reservoir.

Time to get to the Rowans for our cookout. What a great night! Thanks Kevin Schultz for the great music.
