Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker has high praise for his quarterback Trevor Harris, who returns for his third season with the Green and White.
“He’s one of the best to ever do it, if not the greatest to do it. Playing alongside him the biggest thing is learning from him,” Schaffer-Baker said. “He’s got so much knowledge from the game. I’m a sponge sitting beside him, soaking up every little thing he’s got to offer.”
The 27-year-old Schaffer-Baker appreciates the work ethic he sees from the 12-year veteran QB.
Last season, Schaffer-Baker suited up in 14 games for the Green and White, recording 52 receptions for 735 yards with four touchdowns. He anticipates second-year pass catcher Dohnte Meyers taking a step forward in 2025 after flashing potential as a rookie.
“Phenomenal player and he picked up right where he left off,” Schaffer-Baker said. “He came back showing that he’s one of the best receivers in this league and he’s going to continue to prove that every single day.”
Meyers played five games for the Green and White in 2024, registering 24 receptions for 349 yards with one touchdown. The 24-year-old could be a starter for Saskatchewan in his sophomore CFL season. His veteran teammate knows there’s always competition at training camp.
“It’s amazing being out here again at camp. There’s no better feeling than being with the boys, playing football, doing what we love every single day.”
The six-foot-four, 195-pound pass catcher enjoys the physical part about being a receiver. He relished the pads coming on for the first time this year.
“95 percent of the game we’re blocking, so that’s what we get to go out there and do is smack something,” Schaffer-Baker said. “You can’t hide when the pads are on. We saw that energy, everyone was out there having fun flying around and being safe.”
