Earlier this week, 620 CKRM held its annual spring media auction which included a skydiving experience from a company in Saskatoon. Many brave souls have made successful jumps over the years, while others have the experience on their bucket list yet as part of a milestone birthday, for example.
Before jumping, it’s always good to ensure any valuables are removed or left with friends back on Earth. Recently, Casey Flay of the United Kingdom made a jump from an airplane at over 4,200 meters (14,000 feet) only to realize his phone also made the leap out of his suit pocket. His GoPro helmet camera caught the moment his iPhone 13 Pro Max went freefalling to Earth without a parachute. Flay was certain he left the phone on the plane but as it went hurdling downward towards Earth, he realized he forgot to take it out of his skydiving suit.
After successfully landing, Flay decided to try the Find My Phone app to see if he could locate the device or if he should head back to the store and purchase a new phone. Not only did he find the phone six kilometers (four miles) away from his landing spot, he noticed it was fully intact and still worked.
According to Flay, the phone worked even better after the major fall because a button that had become stuck on the phone after he spilled drink on it, became unstuck and works better than it did before.
