When we sit down to watch a science-fiction movie one of the things we think of, or notice first, is the fact there are flying cars in that movie. For years and years we thought flying cars were just a dream but one European company is making them become reality – and they may go on sale as early as next year.
The Slovakia-based company Klein Vision says they’re nearly ready to start selling their “AirCar,” which will revolutionize the way we drive. It’s not exactly like what you see in the movies where the car can take off into the air right away. The two-seater car still requires a runway to get up into the sky and back down again.
The AirCar can reach speeds of up to 195km/h at an altitude of 8,000 feet. It measures about two meters wide, 1.8 meters tall, and 5.8 meters long. Will the wings get in the way when travelling down the highway? No, because they’re designed to tuck into the side of the car and will be able unfold into aircraft mode in less than two minutes.
Currently, the car is in the prototype phase and being tested to make sure it’ll be a safe machine for customers. According to the company, over 500 take-offs have been conducted with over 170 flying hours.
Klein Vision is hoping to have their car available for sale sometime in 2026 for an estimated cost of $1.1 million in Canadian dollars.
