REGINA — The City of Regina is awarding the efforts of volunteers.
Per approval of a motion at a recent city council meeting, volunteers will soon be given a three-admission pass for city facilities.
“We want to be able to recognize volunteers for their efforts,” said Mark Burton (Ward 4) during a media scrum last week.
Dubbed the “Volunteer RECognition Pass,” local Regina organizations that promote community safety, well-being, youth development, etc., while utilizing volunteers are eligible to receive the pass.
“Eligible organizations may apply multiple times throughout the year to request Volunteer RECognition Passes for different events or volunteer initiatives,” per the report.
It also mentions volunteers can only receive one pass per year, even if a volunteer has done work for different organizations or the number of times they’ve volunteered.
“We don’t want people to abuse them,” said Burton.
The passes can be used at North West Leisure Centre (NWLC), Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre (SSLC), Sportplex (Fieldhouse or Lawson Aquatic Centre), and Massey, Regent and Wascana Outdoor Pools.
Burton said this allows volunteers to enjoy a day of swimming, skating and other activities.
As for costs, city administration outlined minimal financial costs. “Annual printing and distribution costs are estimated at $500,“ according to the report.
The city will start implementing the passes in Jan. 2026.
