Driver allegedly ran off after collision

PRINCE ALBERT – A driver has been charged after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop and striking another vehicle.

On July 2, at approximately 4:40 p.m., a Saskatchewan RCMP Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan officer was conducting patrols in the Prince Albert area.

The officer observed a driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, activated their emergency lights and performed a traffic stop in the City of Prince Albert. As the officer began exiting their police vehicle, the driver fled in their SUV at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, Prince Albert Police Service received a report of a collision at 15 Street West and 1 Avenue in the City of Prince Albert. The investigation determined the SUV collided with another vehicle. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.

The driver of the SUV fled on foot. He was located and arrested shortly after by Prince Albert Police Service.

It was determined he was prohibited from driving.

As a result of the continued investigation, Prince Albert RCMP has charged a 32-year-old man, from Prince Albert, with:

– one count, failure to stop for peace officer;

– one count, operate a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public;

– one count, fail to stop after an accident;

– one count, obstruct peace officer; and

– one count, operate a conveyance while prohibited.

He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on July 3.
