What do you think; are electric vehicles here to stay? If you are not a fan, I think a trip to the Saskatchewan Science Centre east parking lot should be a must.
Plug ‘N Drive will be available to all interested in the future of driving until July 20th at the above location. EVs are for EVeryone Plug ‘n Driver’s Cross Canada Tour, is partially funded by Natural Resources Canada, they and other sponsors are bringing the Mobile EV Educational Trailer and EV Roadshows to communities nationwide. This is a wonderful way to ask the questions you’ve always wanted answered away from a dealership. My questions included how much does it cost to charge a vehicle at a charging station. With that question I found out that you can park it at home with a regular plug in, however that takes a whole weekend to charge. The other way of course is charging while shopping or stopping for a rest at a charging station and the cost is rather minimal. A 30 minute charge gives you time to have lunch, stretch your legs or have a quick nap to refresh, just like your EV and might be less than $20, depending on how low your charge was.
EV drivers such as Grant, pictured here, are available to answer questions and prepare you for a test drive. It felt like I was going through driver training! With only 40 moving parts in an electric vehicle compared to the four hundred in what you might currently be driving, you’ll find there are some “buzzers and whistles” that you aren’t used to. A couple things include the small camera that projects a picture of where you are when making right hand turns. No Jumping the Curb!! This car so quiet as you slow, some of the cars offer a bit of ambient noise just to let you know that you are running! There is a brake setting that was new to me that I wasn’t crazy about. I still like to feel as though I am in control of the car. And the pick up on the unit I drove, again pictured here, was snappy. I wish I could have driven it longer and on a highway, maybe one of the other units. From Rolls Royce, to Jeep Cherokees to Fiats there is a car or truck for everyone. The crew here in Regina has a few of the EVS you can experience. www.plugndrive.ca to book your time.
This Hyundai EV was nice to drive and I really appreciated getting some of the insight into the EV culture. It isn’t all Tesla and Elon.
