REGINA–Saskatchewan RCMP say the number of homicides in their jurisdiction has dropped significantly in the first half of 2025, following a record-setting year in 2024.
Between January 1 and July 15, 2025, RCMP reported 13 homicide files involving 13 victims. That’s down from 23 homicides during the same period last year. Of the 13 cases this year, nine have been solved, while four remain under active investigation.
The decline comes after a troubling 2024, which saw 39 homicide files and 41 victims — the highest number of homicide files ever recorded by Saskatchewan RCMP. The 2024 total marked a 26% increase in homicide files and a 32% rise in victims compared to 2023.

RCMP officials say their Major Crimes Branch continues to use every available resource and investigative technique to solve cases. The clearance rate for homicides in RCMP jurisdiction between 2015 and mid-2025 stands at 85%, well above the national average of 72%.
The RCMP also assisted File Hills First Nations Police Service with two homicide investigations this year involving five victims. Both cases have been solved.
Officials note that some suspicious deaths initially investigated as homicides may later be reclassified, and are not included in the official totals. Likewise, cases where the accused is found to be non-culpable are excluded from the statistics.
The data was released as part of the RCMP’s annual crime statistics and trend report, which contributes to the national Crime Severity Index compiled by Statistics Canada.
