Last year in Swan River, I found myself wandering through a local art show. One painting, in particular, stopped me in my tracks. It was a simple corner of a country road. The lady I was with explained that this was the corner right at the turn off to her farm, and she wished she could purchase it. The way the artist painted it was incredible. The grass looked so real I wanted to reach out and touch it, and the stones seemed to pop right off the canvas. I was genuinely blown away! The only thing missing? I didn’t get to meet the artist behind this amazing work.
Fast forward to this year, and life gave me a second chance. I got to interview that very artist on the radio! Meeting her in person was such a treat. She was warm, down-to-earth, and full of stories about her inspiration and love for the Swan River landscape. After our chat, I hung around the gallery to watch her do a live painting demo. It was so cool to see her in action—each brushstroke bringing the prairie to life right before my eyes.
While I was there, another one of her landscapes caught my attention. A simple path shaded by beautiful lush trees hanging overhead. It captured the scene of a place I would love to go walking in that very moment. I had to have it, so I brought it home with me. Art really does have a special way of connecting us—to a place, a moment, and even to each other.
I’m so grateful I went from being a quiet admirer to actually meeting the artist and taking home a piece of her talent.
