Over the years Saskatchewan has been home to several major movie projects including 2005’s “Just Friends” with Ryan Reynolds, 1977’s “Who Has Seen the Wind” with Gordon Pinsent, and the 2024 horror flick “Die Alone” with Carrie-Anne Moss.
Saskatchewan has also given its share of well known actors and actresses to Canada and Hollywood such as Leslie Nielsen, Brent Butt, Tatiana Maslany, and Corner Gas’ Eric Peterson, among others. It goes to show that it doesn’t matter where you’re from or how small your hometown is, hard work and dedication to your craft will get you far in the world.
Weyburn will be home to a new movie shoot in September and the production team is looking for extras. Filming will start in mid to late September for the film “Evergreen,” which is written and directed by Morgan Kelly.
The movie is set in 1910 and centres around a young woman named Louise who becomes an illustrator for the newspaper she works at, which was a very rare thing for a woman to do in the early 1900’s. Illustrators were an important component to newspapers in those days because they helped visually enhance news stories, editorials, and, in some cases, ads. On top of working a new job, Louise must find a way to balance her creative ambitions with the drama of her own family.
The movie production is looking for a number of auditions for roles in the movie including for the lead role of Louise. They’re also looking to fill the roles of Min, Arabella, Mr. Thomas, Robert, and Marshall.
Those interested in trying out can email director Morgan Kelly at morgan.jones9@hotmail.com, including your name, a head shot, and if you’ve had any previous acting experience. Filming will take place around Weyburn and period costumes will be included in the shoot.
