GEORGE GORDON FIRST NATION – Update 2: Xavier Worm, 24, from Regina, is charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a prohibited firearm without authorization or license, and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.
On Aug. 19, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Punnichy RCMP received a report of an injured female outside a residence on George Gordon First Nation.
Police say the investigation determined an altercation occurred between an adult male and an adult female. The male was armed with a firearm. During the altercation, the firearm was discharged. The male left the scene on foot. The female was transported to hospital with a serious gunshot injury.
Later that same day, Saskatchewan RCMP located the male in a nearby treed area. The male attempted to flee from police on foot but officers were able to bring him safely into custody.
During a following investigation, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services, a firearm and ammunition were located and seized in a rural area on George Gordon First Nation.
Worm appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 20.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Regina General Investigation Section (GIS) continue to investigate.
Update 1: On Aug. 19, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Punnichy RCMP received a report of an injured female near a residence on George Gordon First Nation.
Officers responded immediately, along with EMS. The female was transported to hospital by STARS with injuries described as serious in nature.
As a result of investigation, officers located and arrested an adult male in a nearby treed area.
Saskatchewan RCMP continue to investigate.
Original post: Saskatchewan RCMP advise there is an increased police presence on George Gordon First Nation in relation to an ongoing investigation. People are asked to avoid the areas where police officers are present and follow any police direction provided.
Police say they will provide an update on this investigation as soon as they are able. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, they will notify the public.
