Premier Scott Moe will lead a trade mission to China and Japan in early September, marking the first time a Canadian Premier has travelled to China on trade in six years.
Moe has invited Prime Minister Mark Carney and federal ministers to join the mission, which aims to strengthen partnerships in agriculture, energy and innovation while addressing barriers facing the canola industry.
The mission comes as Saskatchewan’s exports to Asia surpassed $10 billion in 2024, including $4.4 billion to China and nearly $1 billion to Japan. Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding will also lead a mission to South Korea before joining Moe in Japan.
Provincial officials say the trade missions are designed to expand Saskatchewan’s presence in key Asian markets and demonstrate the province’s economic advantages. The China mission runs September 6 to 12, while the South Korea mission runs September 6 to 9.
