SASKATOON — A woman accused of assaulting a 75-year-old woman at a Saskatoon community garden remains in custody.
Gina Pearl Beatty, 27, had an appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Sept. 4 and was remanded in custody. She is now scheduled back in court on Sept. 18 for a bail hearing.
Beatty faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, assaulting a peace officer, breach of an undertaking and breach of probation. At the time of her arrest in Saskatoon, she was also wanted on outstanding arrest warrants in Prince Albert.
The Saskatoon charges stem from an incident on Aug. 21 when Saskatoon police responded to a community garden in the 3100 block of Arlington Ave. shortly after 5:10 p.m. According to police, the senior citizen reported she was gardening when she was approached by an unknown woman who then assaulted her with a gardening tool. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
Beatty was located by officers in a nearby treeline and taken into custody.
At the time of the incident, Beatty was serving a Conditional Sentence Order (CSO) to be served in the community and was on a three-year probation term following her 2022 conviction for arson. That conviction was related to a fire at a memorial centre in Prince Albert.
