ESTEVAN — A motorist is facing a hefty fine for travelling at a high rate of speed east of Estevan.
According to the Sept. 8 news release from the Estevan Police Service, a patrol member issued a $1,492 speeding ticket, along with a seven-day driver’s licence suspension and a 30-day vehicle seizure, after a driver was tracked on radar travelling at 192 kilometres per hour in an 80 km/h zone.
Meanwhile, a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist was investigated during night shift. According to the EPS, the person operating the bicycle was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital and subsequently discharged without significant injuries. The EPS added an investigation determined the cyclist was at fault for the collision.
EPS members attended to a complaint of a female screaming in the downtown core. The individual was not causing a disturbance when contacted by police, and was warned about her behaviour and sent on her way.
A school bus driver reported a vehicle for failing to halt when the bus' stop arm and lights were activated and children were exiting the bus. The EPS reminds the public it is a requirement under the Traffic Safety Act for vehicles travelling both directions on a street to stop and wait for the stop arm on the bus to retract and the lights to stop flashing before proceeding.
Police were called to a local restaurant Sept. 7 after receiving several similar calls for service involving a female causing a disturbance and asking patrons to call the police. Members attended and spoke with an Estevan female, who was warned regarding her behaviour and escorted out of the business.
Members received a complaint through the Report Impaired Drivers line regarding an impaired driver leaving a local liquor establishment. EPS members were unable to locate the subject’s vehicle due to a high call volume at the time.
A complaint came in of criminal harassment following the breakup of a relationship. As the complainant had relocated to Moose Jaw after leaving Estevan, he was advised to contact that city’s police service for assistance as the offences occurred in that jurisdiction.
The EPS received a request for assistance for a collision involving wildlife. The incident occurred on a rural highway and the matter was forwarded to the RCMP.
Police received a report of theft from a local donation bin. The matter is under investigation with possible theft charges pending.
The EPS received a report of an insecure residence on Sept. 6. Members attended, cleared the residence and contacted the property representative to advise of the occurrence.
Police received a complaint of a large gathering in the Trojan subdivision. Individuals were reported to be walking around and consuming alcohol. Police attended, spoke to the property representative and warned them. Patrols in the area did not locate anyone consuming alcohol in public.
Police received a report of males consuming alcohol outside of a local liquor establishment. The report stemmed from a verbal altercation that a nearby resident had with the individuals. The males left the scene prior to EPS members attending, and the staff at the establishment was warned about allowing individuals to leave their premise with open alcohol.
The EPS received a report of mischief to property. The matter remains under investigation.
While on patrol, members located a highly intoxicated 23-year old Ontario man. Members made an effort to find someone to take responsibility for him, but due to his level of intoxication, he wasn’t able to provide any information. He was arrested for public intoxication, but prior to being lodged in cells, a responsible adult attended the police station and indicated they were prepared to accept responsibility for his wellbeing. He was subsequently released without charge.
Police attended to a local hotel to a report of a male causing a disturbance and making threats. Members attended and spoke to the male, who was warned and transported to his residence was arranged.
