BATTLEFORDS — Battlefords RCMP managed to locate two stolen trucks and the suspects who tried to flee from police officers in an early morning incident.
On Sept. 7, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a theft from a work-site north of North Battleford.
Investigation determined unknown individuals entered the work-site and stole two trucks – an F150 truck and a flat-deck truck.
Officers responded and located the F150 truck near Moosomin First Nation. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. The truck came to a stop. As officers began approaching the vehicle on foot, the truck drove away at a high rate of speed.
For safety reasons, a tire deflation device was set up in the RM of Meota and the F150 truck ran it over. The F150 truck continued to drive at a reduced speed for a short distance before entering a field and becoming disabled. Two occupants exited the truck and fled on foot. With the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, two men were arrested.
Officers located the flat-deck truck disabled in a ditch in a rural area. The vehicle had no occupants.
As a result of investigation, a 33-year-old man, from North Battleford, is charged with:
- one count, flight from peace officer;
- one count, theft of truck;
- one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle;
- one count, operation while prohibited; and
- one count, breach recognizance to keep the peace.
A 35-year-old man, from Saulteaux First Nation, is charged with:
