REGINA – A 48-year-old Saskatchewan man has been sentenced to nine years in a federal prison for bestiality, the creation of child pornography, and weapons offences.
The sentence was handed down in Regina Provincial Court in August after the man pleaded guilty to multiple charges. According to court documents, his crimes spanned two decades, with acts of bestiality involving horses and dogs occurring between Jan. 1, 2004, and May 28, 2024, on a property in the Rural Municipality of South Qu’Appelle.
The investigation, which resulted in the charges in November 2024, uncovered child exploitation material. The man was convicted of making child pornography between Oct. 1, 2017, and May 28, 2024.
A search by police also revealed illegally stored weapons. He was convicted on several firearms offences, including storing prohibited, restricted, and non-restricted firearms illegally, and contravening regulations on their display, transport and handling. He was also found with a prohibited firearm and readily accessible ammunition without holding a valid license.
The court stayed several other charges, including sexual assault on a child under the age of 16, distributing child pornography, and possessing overcapacity magazines.
In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed other restrictions. He is prohibited from owning firearms for 10 years after his release, must submit his DNA to the National DNA Data Bank, and will be listed on the National Sex Offender Registry for 20 years. The court also issued an order prohibiting him from owning or having any contact with animals.
