ESTEVAN — Taylor Morgan Japp now has trial dates set in connection with a southeast Saskatchewan homicide case.
Japp had a pre-trial hearing Sept. 9 in Court of King’s Bench in Estevan. At that time, a judge-and-jury trial was scheduled for Sept. 6-Oct. 9, 2026, also in Estevan Court of King’s Bench.
He is charged with second-degree murder in the April 2024 death of Briana Hayes in Oxbow. He has made numerous appearances in Provincial Court and the Court of King’s Bench since that time. He will continue to have pre-trial sessions between now and next September.
A preliminary hearing was held in June in Carlyle to determine whether there was enough evidence to send Japp’s case to trial.
Charges have been stayed against the co-accused in the case.
Background: On April 24, 2024, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of a possible homicide. The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit took control of the investigation. Hayes' body was found the following day in a rural location in the RM of Moose Mountain.
The second-degree murder charge against Japp was announced on April 26. He was eventually released from custody with conditions.
