The Yorkton Regional Airport has unveiled the official name of its upgraded terminal building, honouring a family with long-standing ties to the community and aviation.
The facility will now be known as the Popowich Terminal after Mike Popowich secured the naming rights earlier this year.
Yorkton Mayor Aaron Kienle said the investment goes beyond infrastructure.
“With Yorkton Regional Airport Popowich Terminal, we’re not only building a modern facility — we’re building for the future of our city,” Kienle said. “This investment strengthens our infrastructure, supports our economy, and connects people to Yorkton for years to come.”
Popowich said his family is proud to play a role in the airport’s next chapter.
“We are excited for the new terminal building. It will modernize the location, benefit the community, and support increased usage far into the future,” Popowich said. “We are very happy to be able to make a long-term commitment to contribute to this important project and look forward to being part of its success.”
The airport launched an open call for naming rights earlier this year as part of a plan to expand services, upgrade facilities and highlight Yorkton’s role in regional transportation.
The official unveiling of the Popowich Terminal signage will take place October 2nd.
The event will feature photo opportunities, tours of the terminal and refreshments.
