PRINCE ALBERT – An inmate has escaped from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert, a multi-level security federal institution, says Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).
Staff discovered at approximately 9:30 p.m., on Sept. 13, during the regular count, that Donald Buchanan, 28, was unaccounted for.
CSC say they immediately contacted both the Prince Albert Police Service and the Prince Albert RCMP, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.
Buchanan is 6-foot-2 and 166 pounds. He has a fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair. He has multiple tattoos, including a Koi fish on his right arm, “Trans Canada” on his right wrist, a cross with a razor blade on his right upper arm, and “YXE”, a plane, cartoon figure on his right hand.
Buchanan is currently serving a sentence of two years for possession of schedule I/II substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime valued over $5,000, possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order, and possession of prohibited weapon knowing it is unauthorized.
Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Donald Buchanan is asked to contact the police.
CSC say they will investigate the circumstances of this incident and is working with the police to locate the offender as quickly as possible.
