WEYBURN — Update 2: Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes continues to investigate the suspicious death that occurred near Weyburn on Sept. 12. Police officers may be attending businesses in the area today. Please call police if you have any security footage from the Highway 39 area.
The owner/driver of the vehicle/trailer has been identified. They are not connected to this suspicious death investigation. Police no longer require additional information from the public about the vehicle/trailer.
“We have received many tips from the public in relation to this investigation and people have come forward who were in the area at the time of this incident,” said Insp. Ashley St. Germaine of Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes. “We recognize this is the result of information shared online and through our news partners. It shows the public wants to help and we appreciate this greatly.
“We are appealing to those individuals who may have been out in the area of Highway 39 northwest of Weyburn on Sept. 12. Maybe you were hunting or target shooting, or perhaps you were with or know someone who was. Perhaps you recall a passing a vehicle on that road around 8 p.m. Maybe you have vehicle dash cam footage from travelling Highway #39 that night. Please give our investigators a call to assist us in getting answers for the victim’s family and community.”
Seeking doorbell, house cameras and other video surveillance
Investigators are asking the public and business owners – particularly those with buildings or homes along Highway 39 into Weyburn and Highway 13 – to check video surveillance or house/doorbell camera footage between 7:45 and 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12. If you note any suspicious people or vehicles or anything out of the ordinary, please call and report it.
WEYBURN – Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is appealing to the public for new information, specifically the driver of a white truck, as they continue to investigate a suspicious death on Highway 39 northwest of Weyburn.
The incident occurred on the evening of Sept. 12, shortly after 8 p.m. According to investigators, first responders from the Weyburn Police Service and EMS were initially dispatched to the scene, and continued to assist Weyburn RCMP upon their arrival.
Police say their investigation has determined a white truck may have been traveling ahead of the black SUV and was parked alongside Highway 39 around the time of the shooting.
“This vehicle may or may not have also been hit by gunshot,” said the RCMP in a media release Sunday. “If you drive a white four-door crew cab truck and were traveling along Highway 39 northwest of Weyburn around 8 p.m. on Sept. 12, please call investigators at 310-7267 (RCMP). Investigators do not believe the gunshots came from this truck.”
RCMP Major Crimes investigators have received many tips from the public and they thank everyone for coming forward with information and say you never know what might be important.
“We continue to encourage anyone with information to report it to police,” said the RCMP.
They are now specifically asking residents and business owners along Highway 39 into Weyburn and along Highway 13 to review their doorbell, home security, or business surveillance footage from between 7:45 and 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 for any suspicious activity, people, or vehicles.
