REGINA The opposition New Democrats plan to bring a motion to Public Accounts Committee calling on the Provincial Auditor to investigate the Sask. Party government for allegedly overspending $100 million on water bombers.
The motion would also call for an investigation into their "failure to ensure water bombers were maintained and fully operational during the spring and summer of 2025," according to the NDP news release.
The NDP said in a news release Friday that they put the Sask. Party on notice Friday that a formal motion will be moved Monday at Public Accounts Committee.
This proposed motion comes following news reports of a court document from airtanker supplier Coulson Aircrane, who have accused the Sask. Party government of awarding a contract worth of over $187 million to Conair for four water bombers without putting the contract out to public tender. The government has denied any wrongdoing, saying the Coulson bid did not meet their specifications.
The government has also faced heat over four water bombers that had been grounded during the height of the fires this summer.
“Four water bombers were collecting dust during the worst fire season in a decade, and now new allegations have emerged of a deal costing taxpayers $100 million,” said Hugh Gordon, Saskatchewan NDP MLA and member of the Public Accounts Committee, in a statement .
“Providing notice today will make sure that government members are not caught off guard and can support this call for greater transparency, accountability, and responsible spending.”
